Motor insurance policies aren’t taken out in the hope that a vehicle incident occurs and it’s rare for a customer to utilise their policy to make a claim. If that unfortunate time comes, our primary goal is ensuring that our customer receives a service that’s second to none, getting them back on the road quickly with the aim that they’ll want to renew their policy with us.
In striving to meet this goal, we’re passionate about:
Our agile, fast paced and forward-thinking claims department offers a diverse and exciting career for the right people. You’ll receive exposure within a wide variety of disciplines and will develop technically, commercially, analytically and hone your leadership skills.
Where you’ll be based
We’re committed to hybrid working. You can work mostly from home, with as and when required visits to our Leicester, London or Bexhill offices.
We understand that your first graduate role should be more than just a job. Starting your career at Hastings Direct gives you the chance to make your mark in an ambitious, rapidly growing and digitally driven business. A company that genuinely cares about you as an individual, respects your opinions and listens to your ideas. One where you can make a positive difference, because you’re encouraged to look for growth opportunities and achieve your full potential.
We aim to give you the experience and technical knowledge to progress your career. We’ll provide you with a nurturing and challenging environment to help expand your horizons, develop new skills and make new connections.
Most of all, you’ll find all the support you need from people at every level, so you can fulfil your ambitions. From managers who are approachable and supportive, to colleagues who are always ready to help each other out. In short, you’ll have all you need to launch a successful career.
This two-year programme is built to enable you to become a future Hastings leader. You will have the opportunity to gain experience across the Claims and Counter Fraud organisation; working with our operational and commercial teams to understand and help transform us as a business and be a market leader in claims management.
Over the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to work in or with a number of different parts of the claims team:
Our commercial teams are responsible for developing and implementing strategies that ensure we pay the right cost for a claim – no more, no less, and through partnership with other parts of the Hastings organisation, reach our goal of being the best in market for claims management.
Our change teams coordinate a portfolio of activity from across the function; from system changes to prioritisation of broader change across our operational, commercial or supplier landscape.
These teams ensure we have the right processes in place consistently across our department, as well as the appropriate governance framework and outcomes that are in place and are adhered to. You’ll gain a better understanding of risk assessment and management, including incident coverage.
You’ll spend time understanding Audit’s objective role within the department and their wider impact to the business. You’ll also learn how the coaching function works in an operational environment to drive the right performance outcomes.
One of the teams at the forefront of our data and analytics insights, they provide clarity on trends and performance for different areas, enabling teams across the departments to make robust and informed decisions.
Our operational teams own the claims journey and are the primary points of contact for customers, third parties and representatives; from the point we are notified of an incident right through to handling complex elements relating to injury or counter fraud.
From the moment you join us, we’ll make sure you have access to a wide variety of opportunities for both personal and professional growth. You’ll be enrolled on our early careers development programme, providing you with a suite of bespoke sessions which develop the strengths we know graduates need to be successful at Hastings Direct. I've been with Hastings Direct for just over a year and the time has truly flown by! I'm currently on my third placement with the Quality and Control department.
Each placement has offered me unique experiences and opportunities to develop various skills, while providing invaluable insights into the business as a whole. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience and I've enjoyed being part of diverse workstreams. From delivering statistical reports to monitor team performance with the Operational Delivery team, to exploring new tools and technologies with the Anti-Fraud team, and now focusing on process governance with the Quality and Assurance department, this journey has been fantastic for my growth and development.
Beyond the work itself, the social aspect has been a highlight, with offsite events and team days that let us connect outside the office environment. I’m happy to say I’ve made many connections and found colleagues who I genuinely consider friends as I move forward.
After each stage, we’ll let you know if you’ve made it to the next one and what to expect. If you haven’t, we’ll be happy to give you feedback.
